How Long Has It Been Since You Went Old School?

Thank all of you for you kind comments about the kitchen.  I will do my best to post pictures Thursday afternoon or Friday morning of the real stuff that happens in there.

Quite a few of you mentioned you would like to turn this into an event.  So....for anyone interested, post as many pictures as you like of your kitchen as you are preparing the feats of all feasts, feel free to include your dining area, your guests, the whole enchilada!

Post by Friday and let me know in the comment section if you would like to patrticipate so I can be sure to visit your blog.

How many of you have had a Carrot and Rasin Salad recently?  This is an old school salad that still rocks!  I was yenning for this big time last week.

Peel 4 carrots and slice in the food processor or grater.  Add in 1/2 cup of raisins.  Stir in 1-1/2 tablespoons of mayonnaise.  That's all there is to it!  This keeps in the fridge for about 2 days.  Yes, you can keep coming back for more!

Some recipes call for lemon juice.  I don't normally add lemon juice but I did this time and won't ever do it again.  It made the salad too tart and it didn't have that nutty, comforting feeling that I was anticipating.

Other tweaks you can add are chopped pecans or chunks of pineapple.

This is a Fall salad that I truly enjoy...hope you try it soon!

  6. I am in for the "reality show" postings for T-day... I am cooking twice for the day, first one will be Sunday, when I cook everything, Thursday, I only smoke the bird and a couple small sides for a neighborhood thing, so my best disaster shots will be from Sunday. So I will be setting the standards early

  7. Did you just say 'enchilada', darn you when I have no Tex-Mex places around me, and have class in a few minutes!

Sounds fun...and we made a similar salad in the cafe last year with apples, carrots, cabbage, and paprika...now I am truly hungry...

  8. Hmmm. I don't think I've ever had carrot and raisin salad. I really like how easy this is to make, and that I have all the ingredients in my house already. I'll have to try this one sometime!

  11. I love the carrot/raisin salad, Katherine, but my hubby cannot stand raisins.. SO--I doubt that I'll make this one. Have you ever had it with pineapple in it??? It's good that way also.

    Hugs,

  17. I love carrot raisin salad but sadly growing up my family would rather have liver or brussel sprouts. The only time I got to eat it was when they served it in the school cafeteria.

  22. This recipe sounds dee-lish! I will definitely try it. It was one of my Mom's favorites, so I grew up with it on the table. Plus it was always a must at The Picadilly! Have a fun weekend, cher!

  23. One of our guests is always armed with his camera; maybe we'll get some insane shots of food prep in motion. I have posted pictures of my kitchen before, but not in your kind of detail. And our fancy eatin' room is right next to the kitchen, too, through a pass-through at the end of the counter. Couldn't be better. Yes, I made hubby pay someone to chop a hole in the wall for that.

  29. Oh darn--I want to post pics of my kitchen, but I'm not hosting Thanksgiving this year. Still, I might spruce it up and join in :)

Carrot and raisin salad was one we always made when I worked at Whole Foods--no one ever seemed to tire of it!
