Banana Pudding

Aren't blooming dogwood trees just beautiful?
Original recipe adapted from Paula Deen.
I’ve never been a big a huge banana pudding fan. It wasn’t in my mother’s rotation of recipes growing up, so the only other exposure I’d had to the dish was the occasional trip to a cafeteria-style restaurant or at a friend's home.
I pretty much didn't even think of banana pudding. This is one of those retro dishes that is back in vogue and just kind of taken up a few more notches to top shelf.

One day a co-worker brought this banana pudding to the office, one she’d seen Paula Deen make on her television show; once I took my first bite, I knew just what I’d been missing. Suddenly, everything made sense.

Line a 9x13 pan with Nilla Wafers.

Slice up 3 or 4 bananas and layer the banana slices over the Nilla Wafers.

In a large bowl, prepare one large box or two small boxes of French Vanilla instant pudding per package directions. Using a hand mixer combine into the pudding one 8 oz. package of softened cream cheese and one 14 ounce can of condensed milk. Then fold in one 12 ounce container of whipped topping.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours so pudding can set.

And serve. I know you'll love this recipe, because you’ve just made the best banana pudding. Ever.

  6. See, the only problem with this one, Katherine, is that I could eat the entire pan myself. Once I figure out how to exercise a little restraint, I am going to make it. My entire family will love this!

  10. Well, the cream cheese makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it? Although I love vanilla wafers so much that I'd have a hard time burying them at the bottom of this cold pudding goodness.

  20. Katherine, what I love about these kinds of recipes is that they can be made by children who are just beginning to show an interest in cooking. I'm sure this is delicious.

  27. There is a cheesecake version of this I have had once, in the traditional form...the pudding form was in my house at least twice a month down in Texas, and my little sister is the only one that continues the tradition. My hubby eats up the bananas too fast just as I think of it :)

I am getting to the point where I understand why my mom, and grandmother stopped cooking elaborate meals...they said what you did...and I agree, someone can come over and cook for me...please :)

  34. Oh does that ever look good. Way to reward myself after a day at the computer and evening in the garden. The banana pudding can be my carrot at the end of a stick. Better than carrots!

  35. I don't think I've eaten banana pudding the way you made, the one that I ate is only instant pudding with banana flavor, hehehe...

  39. Girl, once again you have hit the nail on the head.

I do enjoy banana pudding, but I'm a ridiculous critic with no real founding, other than living in South Carolina for my primary years ;)

Looks good, I do want to try a banana pudding recipe--and it will probably be yours.
